2009 California Ovarian Cancer Stakeholder Meeting

The Californa Ovarian Cancer Stakeholder Meeting took place on Friday June 26th at the American Cancer Society Orange County Regional Office in Santa Ana, California. This meeting brought together all stakeholders involved in the education and awareness of ovarian cancer in California.  The goal of the meeting was to connect organizations in California involved in the education and awareness of ovarian cancer and identify possible areas of collaboration.  There were 20 individuals present, representing 16 different organizations.  (View meeting slideshow)

The meeting was very successful and had the following outcomes:

  • Collaborations among participant organizations and COCAP were established
  • Other organizations not present at the meeting were identified for inclusion on collaborative efforts
  • Ideas for an ovarian cancer summit in September 2010 were discussed
  • A California Ovarian Cancer Network was formed with the following functions
    • Network with ovarian cancer organizations & others doing similar work
    • Share ovarian cancer information and resources
    • Maintain a clearinghouse of ovarian cancer information and resources
    • Maintain a communication mechanism including being a contact for media outlets
    • Identify opportunities for collaboration among network and outside organizations

COCAP will be the umbrella organization managing administrative functions of the network. The California Ovarian Cancer Network will contribute to COCAP's goals and objectives by increasing education and awareness efforts throughout the state by way of collaboration of network partners.
